Analogy Between a World of 24-Hour Clocks and a Wave with 1 Kink (k = -1)
Let's consider a series of clocks for each of the 24 major time zones around the world. At the time that Greenwich, England reads noon the other 23 clocks increment a number of hours depending on their longitudes (For the purpose of this discussion we avoid local systems and DST). For this first scenario a 24-hour clock is used and the master clock in Greenwich is expanded at the bottom. Midnight is 00:00 (Hour hand pointed up) and noon is at 12:00 (Hour hand pointed down). The complete row of clocks along the top have hour hands that describe a wave that goes through one cycle (or kink). To see time advance, click on the picture or controls at the bottom.
