Analogy Between a World of 12-Hour Clocks and Wave with 2 Kinks (k = -2)
Now, we consider a series of 12-hour clocks where the hour hand goes around twice each day. The Greenwich master clock is expanded at the bottom and the hour hand will be straight up for both noon and midnight. The hour hands of the clocks at top now describe a wave with two peaks and two troughs or two kinks. You might have noticed the 1 kink wave before moved to the left. That is the negative direction and gave us a negative sign for k. Since the world turns at the same speed and direction, so should the wave, just with two kinks (k = -2).
